I was visiting with a family friend today, and as we talked I remembered some funny things Darrin has said recently. These were the type of little quips that, when you hear them, you say, "Oh, I need to write that down!" So here they are, in writing, to make you chuckle...and perhaps offer some embarrassment for my son one day!
The other night Josh and Darrin were playing together and Darrin stuck his hand down the neck of Josh's shirt and felt his chest. "Daddy! You have a teddy bear in there!"
He did the same with me one day..."Mommy has a pee-pee!" I don't even know if I should comment further on that one...except to add that I reminded him those were Mommy's mooies (family terminology...don't ask!). Later he felt down Josh's shirt and when we asked him what he was doing he said, "I looking for Daddy's mooies."
One night Josh was giving Dman a bath. He said that Darrin grabbed himself and then started to get upset. "Oh no!" he wailed. When Josh asked what was wrong Darrin replied, "My pee-pee is broken! It has a crack in it! Daddy, we need to fix it!" Oh my...
More Darrin quotes to come as I think of them!

A Beautiful Day at the Park!
Yesterday I took the kids to the neighborhood park. It was a glorious, warm January day! It's a 10 minute walk (downhill) from the house...which means the return trip is a good 20 minutes all uphill pushing 100 lbs of stroller and babies! This was Madi's first time really "going to the park" to play. Darrin is already a pro on the equipment, which is sized perfectly for him. That's a plus since I can keep a watchful eye on him and still be free to chase Madi...or pull her off the slide, or keep her from eating leaves!

Miss Madi relished being able to run free, as best a 1-year-old can run, I suppose. :o) She immediately attempted to climb up the slide and made pretty good progress. Does that tell you anything about her personality? Darrin joined her in her endeavors, then happily scampered off to conquer the "swirly" slide solo. I don't know when my son became fearless; okay, maybe "fearless" isn't the right word...blissfully ignorant, maybe? He is cautious, yet I think he is confident he will be perfectly safe on anything...such as the rope ladder I found him halfway up when my attention was averted to his escaping sister! My mommy brain said not to move suddenly or make it more than it was, just to calmly request that he not climb there unless I could be there to assist him (read: maintain constant physical contact in case he aborted the mission). Luckily I listened to my brain and waited (with my hands poised to catch him!) as he carefully climbed back down.
Meanwhile, Madi discovered that there was "more" beyond the playground. She didn't know where she was headed, only that it was off into the wild brownish-greenish grassy yonder of freedom...and isn't it so funny to make Mommy run and chase her?! I'd catch her and try to lead her back to the play equipment (all the while hoping Darrin hadn't headed right back to that rope ladder), and she'd come complacently only to immediately turn, cackle, and run off again the instant she wormed her hand out of mine. I really don't think she had a goal, just to see how far she could go. But for a child that doesn't care for grassy lawns, the 2 softball outfields she was directed towards would have pulled her up short, I'm certain!
All in all we had a wonderful time. It's a beautiful park, though extremely hot in the summer and most of the fall. I think this will become part of our regular outings now that they can both enjoy themselves there. :o)
Sweet Siblings!

At least she's polite enough to point to where she's heading!

Oh, if only we had water running through this creekbed...

Our precious kiddos!

A look back...
Welcome to the newest way to keep up with the Moss family! I've been meaning to start a blog for several months, but was stubbornly holding out until the new year. Boy did it come fast! Gone is our baby site, and it almost seems that our babies are "gone," too. (Insert wistful sigh here.) Darrin is almost 3, and Madi just turned 1. It's been so rewarding watching them grow in so many ways, but it's also a reminder of how quickly time flies.
Without getting weepy and mushy, let me share with you some of the cuter highlights of our past year, also some of my favorite memories...
We had gone to dinner and were about to head home, putting the kids in the car. Josh placed Darrin's sippy cup on top of the car, and it fell to the ground whacking the car window on it's way. Josh said, "Darn it!" A few minutes later as I'm strapping Darrin into his carseat he says to me, "Darn it!" I suggested we say something nicer, like great googly-moogly. He looks at me pensively and says very matter-of-factly, "No, Mom. It's not called great googly-moogly, it's just called darn it." Oh well, I tried! And where did he get off thinking he could call me "mom" instead of "mommy?"
Back in June we were visiting my family in Arkansas and Alabama. My mom (G-mom), my sister, and the kids and I were headed from Arkansas to my Papa's house in Alabama. I was suffering from my first UTI and, well, needless to say I was uncomfortable and desperate to get to a restroom for much of the drive. After what seemed an insufferable amount of time we made a quick stop at a service station, and when we were once again heading down the highway my son belted out one of his favorite tracks from one of his Bible Songs CDs..."I gotta peeeeee like a riverrrrr, I gotta peee like a riverrr, I gotta pee like a river in my soouullll..." Boy was I glad he hadn't started singing that a few minutes earlier! We laughed so hard. He was actually saying, "I got (a) peace like a river..." but it came out so funny and with such comic timing we were pretty tickled!
Darrin can make Madi laugh like no one else can. Madi has a good sense of humor--you can tell that right away. She is always smiling and making silly faces. But when it comes to laughing, she holds that in unless she is being mercilessly tickled or else Darrin unwittingly coaxes a giggle out of her. She loves it when he swings around his "bopper" (cloth diaper lovey) or a blanket. I don't know what is so exciting about it, but she will cackle and giggle. It's so fun to watch! She also has taken to running from him expecting to be chased. She thinks it's great fun to run around the island with her brother in hot pursuit on his tricycle. But the funniest thing is pretty recent...she covers her head with her jacket or some other smallish bit of material and walks around. (It reminds me of the movie, Parenthood, where the little kid wears a pot on his head and repeatedly runs into the wall.) When she is covered up, I call her name (as though I can't find her...that's part of the game!) and she giggles and giggles. It's so cute!
There is so much more I could share, but it would take forever! I look forward to seeing what fun this new year brings, and I am anxious to be able to share with you the funny things Madi says--right now we are limited to Daddy, Mama, tind-oo (thank you), and waves and blown kisses...with lots of raspberries thrown in! And I really wish I could show you her wave. It looks so princessy! Either that or she is near to suffering from a very southern case of the "vapors."
Please join us on our journey through 2009 and beyond! I promise to post regularly, or as regularly as the kiddos will allow!
